The 60th Anniversary of D Day was celebrated in the village with an exhibition of memorabilia including typical food rations with tasters, wartime uniforms and personal effects, items from the Bovington Tank Museum and actual film of the D-Day practice landings on Burton Beach. In the evening, several more events took place on the beach, bringing together about 1000 villagers and visitors of all ages. Events included a tug o' war, "Themed Dress" competition, Punch & Judy, Mr Custard, the Holy Fool, a pig roast etc. A musical evening was enjoyed with Burton Bradstock Country Band, and wartime songs by Mezzo, Robert Woodford and a sing-along with Wynne Hughes. A total of £1,365 was raised which has been donated equally to the Royal British Legion and the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance Trust. A special church service was held at St Mary's on Sunday morning, 6th June. |
