The year 2011 total for the Bride
Valley, house to house collection,Band Concert, Coffee
morning,Church collections, static points around
the Valley and generous donations from the Bridport
Lions and The Burton Bradstock Players amounted
to a record £6200 A new record. A special thank
you to the collectors who spent their valuable time
selling the poppies. A thank you also to all of
the public houses and firms that have a box displayed
throughout the year. We must also thank St. Mary's
Church, Burton Bradstock who agreed to having the
collection on Remembrance Day Services donated to
the Poppy Appeal Fund and to the St.Swithun's Band
who every year give of their services free to provide
a Band Concert for the benefit of The Poppy Appeal.
All
the year round the Legion Benevolent Fund - The
Poppy Appeal - benefits from legacies and a huge
variety of sponsored events and fund-raising functions.
But the peak of our fund-raising effort comes in
the run up to the Legion's Festival of Remembrance
and Remembrance Sunday, when the nation proudly
remembers those who died that we might live.
In
early November some 350,000 legion volunteers take
to the streets with poppies and collecting boxes,
raising millions of pounds for the Poppy Appeal
that funds our benevolent work.
Every
November members of this Branch visit each of the
Valleys war memorials to lay a wreath and to show
their respect to the people who died in the two
world wars and to visit the memorials to past members
of the Branch.
