Canaries Breath again

Ninety- seven years after the establishment of the first Burton Bradstock football team a group of football mad villagers have received support from the Parish Council and the Anchor Inn to enter a team in the Bridport Sunday 5 a side league which kicks off on September 5th. 2004
The original Burton Bradstock football team was formed in 1907, playing in amber and black strips they had the nickname of the Canary's. The last season Burton Bradstock had a football team playing competitively was the 1979-80 when the team played in the Dorset League. The Parish Council has agreed to support the resuscitation of the Canaries with the hope that over the next few years Burton Bradstock can once again be restored to the footballing map of Dorset.
The team entered into the Bridport Sunday 5 a side league are called the BBC (Burton Bradstock Canaries) and will play in the original team colours. Team Manager, Chris Lamble says, "the 5 a side team will be a springboard for developing a full blown 11 side team. Over the next year a number of friendly matches will be played in the village to galvanise support and rekindle interest in playing football for Burton Bradstock".
